Internet Safety

Parent U - Grass Valley Police Department

Technology is an amazing and very necessary skill for our children to embrace that can help ensure their future success. Unfortunately, technology can also be a doubled-edged sword. The best safeguard against online dangers is being informed and communicating your expectations to your child. That’s what the Parent U Technology Workshop is all about!

Free Digital Citizenship Resources from Common Sense Media

High quality, free resources for teaching Digital Citizenship to share with your colleagues and families.

Digital Passport (Grade 3-5)
The first resource, Digital Passport, is targeted for grades 3-5 and teaches the basics of online safety and responsibility through a suite of interactive games that can be played on many computing devices including iPads and Chromebooks.

Digital Bytes (Middle/High School)
The second resource, Digital Bytes, is targeted to middle and high school students and teaches teens digital citizenship through student-directed, media-rich activities that tackle real-world dilemmas. Teens learn from the experiences of their peers then create collaborative projects that voice their ideas for making smart, safe choices online.

The handy infographic available for free from this site comes from Nancy White, who learned that teaching digital citizenship as a separate curriculum is one thing, but finding ‘teachable moments’ – when they’re already performing a task where the principles of digital citizenship can be put to work – is another entirely.
